FAB FEST International Fabrication Festival is a week-long celebration of design and making, featuring over 50 pavilions built by students of architecture from across the UK and around the world. The theme for this year’s edition was ‘Pop-up City’. DesignMorphine’s pavilion “from Fabrication to Creation” was awarded 3rd QHT Award for Architectural Spirit. The installation is comprised of 2,400 discrete cardboard elements which interlock together crating an overall form guided by an iso surface.

Dynamic Mutations GSD workshop at Harvard Graduate School of Design J-Term

DesignMorphine taught a 3 day J-Term workshop from Jan 11th to 13th at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. The workshop was met with great interest and registration filled up quick. The workshop covered advanced mesh modelling with Autodesk Maya along with Keyshot rendering. Students learned all aspects of polygon modeling, curve modeling, hard surface modeling, animation, rigging, parametric manipulation, UV editing, texturing, and rendering of mesh’s modeled in Maya. Accompanying DesignMorphine’s Design Director and Creative Director, Michael Pryor and Pavlina Vardoulaki, was Lee Souder, an independent video game concept designer, former Treyarch/Activision on Call of Duty.

This year ETEM will be represented with a parametric pavilion in the exhibition BAU 2017. BAU 2017 is the biggest exhibition for architecture, construction materials and systems for industrial and residential construction which takes place every two years in Munich Germany. The pavilion is a result of the DesignMorphine workshop “Intelligent Tectonics V1.0”. In the workshop multiple teams developed pavilion designs and a winning teams design was selected to be built. The winning design was dubbed as the “Perspective Systems Pavilion” and is currently in the process of full scale construction.

DesignMorphine members gave a lecture for the upcoming intensive course, “Parametric Furniture Design with Grasshopper and Rhino V1.0” which takes place from 27 to 29 January 2017 in Skopje, Macedonia. The lecture took place at the Faculty of furniture and interior design at ss.”Cyril and Methodius University”
The lecturers talked about the parametric and generative design and the main idea of the course. It combines algorithmic methods for 3D modelling with digital fabrication of furniture. The purpose is to produce furniture through the use of parametric design with geometries in a way that allows materialization. The course will go through the processes of constructing a shape algorithm, customization, 3D printing and fabrication. Participants will be introduced to parametric modelling tools in Rhinoceros and Grasshopper which will allow them to create and visualize unique custom designs.

The results of “Intelligent Tectonics V1.0” is a pavilion which is currently in construction for the BAU Trade Fair in Munich in January 2017.

NURBS workshop for Open Styles Lab at MIT
