DESCRIPTION
ALGORITHMIC ACCESSORIES V3.0 is a workshop that combines algorithmic methods for 3D modeling with the digital fabrication of jewelries. We will look at the emerging technology available, being used to create and mass customize accessories and bring the fabrication of novel ideas straight back into reach for the designer again. The center point of the Workshop will be the design of a size-able choker necklace piece, inspired by coral growth and the hyperbolic structure, the flexibility of customization and the opportunity to work in series – we will also elaborate on the structure, delving into the many aspects connected to the algorithm that creates this form, in addition we will look at pattern work found on the surface and observe how the FDM print method interprets this result when it comes down to the fabrication part. Participants will also have the option to have their designs professionally fabricated and distributed with our partners at mything.
 

mything is an Austrian based start-up company and will soon start with an international platform for state-of-the-art, unique, and highly personalized jewelry, accessories, home decorations, gadgets and toys. Designers from all over the world offer their designs, customers choose their favorite object and our mything manufacturing partners produce the items locally, using 3D printing or laser cutting techniques. www.mything.com

 
 
DETAILS
Algorithmic Accessories V3.0 will focus on modeling various iterations of a design parameter suitable for producing a choker necklace. On the technical side of the workshop we will focus on learning the UI and building the definition in Grasshopper on Rhinoceros, using the parameters to create and also restrain the forms so that they can be processed by the PLA print software and manufactured for real life physical use by a FDM printer. The participants will learn to create a definition step by step and utilize the parameters they build to customize and create iterations of their shapes, participants will bake the hypothetical creations into real mesh objects that can be exported for render and manufacture purposes. For the rendering we will use Keyshot, participants will learn about environments and materials in a real time rendering engine, and finally the objects will be repaired and prepared in Meshmixer and arranged in Cura for the print queue for final presentations.

REQUIRED SOFTWARE
Each Participant should provide their own computer with the following software installed. If you do not have a software, trial versions can be found on each software company’s website. We will send participants links to the required software, trials, and plug-ins for download. Please have the software installed prior to workshop start. If you have issues installing software, we may be able to help you during the workshop.

LOGISTICS
Algorithmic Accessories V3.0 will expand from 22 – 25 February, 2018.
Daily meetings will take place from 10:00 to 18:00 at Obere Amtshausgasse 49/2, 1050, Vienna, Austria.
There will be a final presentation of your work containing renderings and diagrams on 25 February, 2018.
There will be 3D Printers on site to print your designs.
All projects will be published on DesignMorphine’s web page.
All participants who complete the workshop will receive a certificate of completion.
For attending the workshop there is no previous software experience required.
Participants need to bring their own laptops or workstations.
Please note that places are very limited on a first pay first serve basis!

Eva is an architectural designer with interests focused on interdisciplinary interaction and multimedia communication based on architecture, arts and computational design. Eva received a Master Degree in Architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where she studied under Prof. Zaha Hadid. Because of her big passion for digital fabrication and rapid prototyping she started Fab Academy in IAAC in Barcelona, where she also assisted with several projects in Fab Textiles Lab. During her study years she worked in Bollinger+Grohmann Ingenieure and after receiving her degree she gained a professional experience in several architectural offices as Coop Himmelb(l)au, DMAA, Studio Acht. She also collaborated with Noumena and Reshape. In addition to this Eva is also participating in media activities on a regular basis, what includes publishing on various online and printed platforms.

With a background in architecture, Andrei is interested in having a better understanding and impact on the built environment through the use of computation. Andrei believes the tools that we use frame our perception of the world, in consequence Andrei is focused on developing and customizing tools in an effort to address two problem solving challenges: better understanding of input information and enhanced capacity of constructing and evaluating the solution space. In 2013 Andrei founded DigitalMatters as an education platform and collaborated since, as a guest tutor, with other entities such as: en{coded} fields, rese-arch Bratislava, eduKube Timisoara, 3D-Dreaming Vienna. In addition to tutoring, Andrei has also been involved in projects that comprise of various pavilions/installations and consultancy studies that benefit from the use of parametric design through Rhino/Grasshopper or Revit/Dynamo
